SMARTBOX
Forms Partnership
with Greater Richmond Red Cross
Portable Self Storage
Firm to Aid with Disaster Relief Services
RICHMOND, Va., August
27, 2007 – SMARTBOX, the Richmond-based portable self storage
and moving firm that is rapidly expanding across the country, today
announces it will partner with the Greater Richmond Red Cross to enhance
its disaster relief services.
In the event of
an emergency such as a hurricane, the Greater Richmond Red Cross will
contact SMARTBOX, which will deliver its portable storage containers
to the Red Cross’ disaster staging center near Richmond International
Raceway. The containers will be loaded with pallets of shrink-wrapped
supplies and delivered by SMARTBOX to the Red Cross’ 15 to 20
area certified shelters, expediting the process the Greater Richmond
Red Cross currently uses.
“We’re
honored to be ‘on-call’ for the Greater Richmond Red Cross
in assisting those in need in our community during an emergency,”
said Mike Lowe, president and CEO of SMARTBOX. “It’s our
hope that we can offer this service on a national level in the markets
we serve, from Boston to South Florida to Denver to Los Angeles.”
Added Rick Russell,
Disaster Services Director of the Greater Richmond Red Cross: “This
is a terrific partnership that will enable us to be prepared in ways
that we’ve never been before.”
The Greater Richmond
Red Cross recently opened a warehouse at 4300 Carolina Ave. in North
Richmond that is stocked with enough supplies (food, water, etc.) to
distribute to half a million people for three days. The partnership
with SMARTBOX will enable it to fill containers and deliver them to
shelters before a disaster hits instead of after, as it currently does.
SMARTBOX, recently
named one of the best franchises in the country by the Franchise Business
Review, partnered with The Supply Room Companies to deliver more than
50,000 items to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Since the start of 2006,
SMARTBOX has opened or announced franchise openings in: Atlanta; Baltimore;
Boston; Chicago; Denver; Jacksonville, Fla.; Los Angeles (opening this
month); Minneapolis/St. Paul; New Orleans; Raleigh, N.C.; San Antonio;
and West Palm Beach, Fla. (opening this month).
