The PERSONALLY PROCURRED MOVE PROGRAM (formerly called the DITY Program) allows any service member that is authorized, to ship their household belongings at government expense, to arrange for the transportation themselves, and then be paid a percentage of what the government would have paid had the government made the arrangements for them.

The advantage is when you can move your goods more economically than the government. Since the government will pay a predetermined rate regardless of the actual expense, with some simple planning, it is possible to profit from your move.
