The Story of a Portable Self-Storage Company
In late 2002, we
began with an idea and a commitment. The idea was to provide better
storage and moving solutions, the commitment was to do it better than
anyone else. To us this meant a system that would provide residential
and business users more flexibility, greater convenience, less stress,
better customer service and a competitive price compared to existing
moving and storage alternatives. As you learn more about SMARTBOX, you
will realize we have a system that works!
During 2003, we investigated all current storage and moving solutions,
explored and determined what customers want and need, developed the
SMARTBOX system and tested system components.
The first two SMARTBOX test locations opened their doors in Richmond,
VA and Fredericksburg, VA, in mid 2003. SMARTBOX quickly found an enthusiastic
customer reception and a stream of orders. Residential and business
customers loved the fact that Smartboxes were delivered to their door
and they could pack at their convenience. Immediately, people realized
there were unlimited ways to utilize SMARTBOX for there storage and
moving needs. Within just a couple of months, hundreds of people had
rented Smartboxes and given the system rave reviews. We soon knew we
had a viable business with the potential for significant growth.
Realizing we had a potential to grow SMARTBOX quickly on a large scale
we continued developing the Richmond and Fredericksburg locations and
designed our systems to allow for a national expansion by franchising.
The operational and legal work began immediately. SMARTBOX Portable
Self Storage, LLC, a Virginia corporation, is privately owned and was
founded in September, 2003. Franchise sales began in July 2004. By the
end of 2004 SMARTBOX had completed the signing of four franchise agreements
and had three locations open.
Due to increased customer awareness and demand by customers SMARTBOX
promptly introduced SMARTCARE, our long distance moving solution. We
are currently providing these services to over 40+ markets throughout
the United States.
Today SMARTBOX is a leading provider of portable storage and moving
services to residential and commercial customers through its network
of franchise locations. Based in Richmond, Va., SMARTBOX offers simple,
smart and affordable solutions for individuals and businesses alike.
SMARTBOX continues to add new franchises and SMARTCARE markets with
the goal of providing service throughout the United States.
