All of our SMARTBOX franchisee owners are entitled to an exclusive territory. Minimum territories consist of 200,000 people and are defined by contiguous zip code. Pricing per franchise is calculated by the size of the territory, relative to the percentage of the population within it.

Initial Franchise Fees

Franchise fees are $40,000 for the first 200,000 population territory and vary based on the population purchased. The average territory sold is 1.1 million people and would cost around $85,000.

Pre-Qualification

SMARTBOX has minimum liquid asset and net worth requirements based on the size of the territory that is being requested and overall financial strength of the individual or group making the request. See Getting Started.

A typical franchisee will have at least $500,000 liquid capital and a net worth over $1,750,000.

Start-up Costs

For a 200,000 person territory, start-up costs range from $350,000-$750,000 depending on storage center location, leasing vs. owning of equipment and storage space, advertising budget and a number of other factors. The total investment ranges from $750,000 to $2,000,000. These are all spelled out in the Franchise Disclosure Document.

Ongoing Costs

Franchisees are required to pay ongoing fees as follows:

  • Royalty fees–7% of net sales
  • Customer Order Center fees –$1000 or 2% of net sales, whichever is greater
  • Marketing and Advertising Program–2% of net sales
